Curriculum for Excellence

The curriculum is the programme of study which is planned for children and young people throughout their education (3 – 18) It includes the ethos and life of the school as a community, curriculum areas and subjects taught, interdisciplinary learning, personal achievement and links to the wider local and national communities and agencies.

The curriculum in Scottish schools is Curriculum for Excellence

There are eight areas:

  • Numeracy
  • Literacy
  • Health and Wellbeing which includes physical education
  • Expressive Arts – music drama and art
  • Social studies
  • Sciences
  • Religious and moral education
  • Technologies

The aim of this is to make us

SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS

Where…

I show:

  • Enthusiasm and want to learn
  • I am keen to do my very best
  • Willingness to think in new ways
  • A desire to try our new ideas

I can:

  • Use literacy, communication and numeracy skills
  • Use technology in learning eg computers/laptops, smartboards, cameras, ipods
  • Think and learn by myself and as part of a group
  • Form an opinion and justify it
  • Use all my learning in new situations
RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS

Where …

I show:

  • Respect for others
  • That I can take an active part in aspects of school life and the wider community

I can:

  • Learn more about Scotland and about its place in the world
  • Show some understanding of how other people lead their lives and what they believe
  • Use what I have learned to make good choices and decisions
  • Form opinions about issues which affect our world
  • Decide what is just and fair when considering different topics
CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS

Where…

I show:

  • Self respect
  • An understanding about my well being by
- Keeping fit and healthy - Being safe and secure - Feeling happy and content
  • A clear understanding of what is important
  • A desire to achieve my goals

I can:

  • Make informed health choices
  • Get on well with others and look after myself
  • Understand my behaviour can affect others
  • Think through and explain my beliefs and how I seee the world
  • Live as independently as I can
  • Make safe and responsible choices
  • Do well in a range of activities

  • I have a ‘can do’ approach to life
  • The ability not to give up
  • Confidence in my own ability

I can:

  • Share my ideas in different ways and in different situations
  • Work with a partner and as part of a team
  • Think and act independently and lead others responsibly
  • Use what I already know to solve problems in new situations
  • Come up with ideas and see them through
  • Solve problems.
